Create outdoor experiences at the Catamount Community Forest that build active lifestyles, friendships, and environmental awareness.
We envision a community in which: Playing in nature is everyone’s first choice.
Catamount Outdoor Family Center began as a cross country ski center in 1978 as a way to utilize the unique 500 acre property. Since that time Catamount has grown to include summer season activities such as mountain biking, hiking, trail running and winter season activities of snowshoeing, fat biking and sledding. Catamount also produces numerous events, weekly races and an extensive summer camp program that currently serves over 400 campers each summer. The trail network has grown as well and now includes a diverse variety of trails covering about 20 miles in total. Since 2005, Catamount has been operating as a 501(c)3 non-profit, and strives to offer opportunities for all ages and abilities. The business began as a means to keep the property preserved for people to use and enjoy into the future. Now, almost 40 years later, the Trust for Public Land, Catamount Outdoor Family Center, the Town of Williston, and a small group of dedicated volunteers are partnering to protect 393-acres of forests, fields, and wetlands that are currently managed by the Catamount Outdoor Family Center. With the goals of securing long-standing recreational opportunities for the public, and safeguarding both the water resources and sensitive wildlife habitats, we will create a new Catamount Community Forest and convey it to the Town of Williston. The Town of Williston plans to continue to utilize the Catamount Outdoor Family Center to manage and operate the trail center. Catamount will continue to operate as a non-profit and offer its popular programs, including summer camps for children, bike and running races, and other special events.
Catamount relies on many a variety of funding sources to further its mission, including user fees and memberships, fundraisers, grants, and tax deductible contributions.
