Catamount members and summer camp instructors Sam Noel, of Shelburne, and Cooper Willsey, from Hinesburg, fared well at this weekends UCI Cyclocross World Championships in Bieles, Luxembourg. Sam raced to 43rd place on Saturday in the Junior Men’s Race. On Sunday, Cooper placed 22nd in the U23 Men’s Race. The course and conditions proved to be quite challenging with cold temperatures and frozen (and thawing) ground surfaces adding to tricky off-camber sections. We are proud of these two racers as they have grown from being fixtures at the Wednesday Night Cyclocross Series and other ‘cross events held at Catamount over the years to achieving success both across the country and internationally.
Several other Catamount members competed recently at the USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships in Hartford, CT held a couple of weeks ago. Greta Kilburn, of Burlington, rode to 3rd place in the 11-12 Junior Women’s Race. Sam N. was 6th in the 17-18 Junior Men’s race and Cooper W. was 7th in the U23 Men’s race. The UVM Cycling Team took a well-earned win in the Collegiate Relay event with Catamount members Meghan Owens and Sam Damphousse (also a summer camp instructor) riding strong in this fun race to help their team.
